If there is a vehicle that breaks down anywhere on this base, they come over here and we’ll fix them for you guys and make sure you guys get rolling. Msgt William Martinez
I’m Master Sergeant Martinez and I deal with the day to day actions of vehicles coming on base, going off base and being repaired. We impact the entire base. There is two wings – all there vehicles are maintained by us. Without vehicle maintenance you pretty much don’t have a mission. We go out and make sure that the planes have the vehicles to tow them we make sure that cops have vehicles to drive. If we didn’t have vehicle maintenance, we’d have a bunch of broke vehicles. Nothing to tow anything, planes wouldn’t move. We work on everything from tow tractors to bread vans which work on the aircraft. Most of the vehicles we repair have impact flight line also by generating flights and sustaining flights. Vehicle maintenance has had a huge impact on any base I've been to. So i think what’s universal with vehicle maintenance, with any shop I’ve been to, has been a great group of guys and girls that have done their hardest to make everything work on the base. We open and close about 188 work orders a month. Our manning is kind of low but we still have enough guys here to keep and maintain our mission capable rate over eighty nine percent – which is pretty outstanding.
They’ve actually pulled more than their weight and got our v-i-c rate higher than it’s been in years – vehicle and commission rate.
We keep pushing every day just getting as much vehicles out as we can. I’ve been in this career for about six years now. It’s a good job to have.
