When in combat, it is every soldier’s duty to save lives. Medics of the 155th Armored Brigade Combat Team train for treating combat wounds today during the Exportable Combat Training Capability Exercise at the Camp Shelby Joint Forces Training Center. The Director of Effects Makeup, Mr. Lawrence Mercado, recreates combat wounds such as burns, gunshot wounds, amputee wounds, and many other serious injuries. Mr. Mercado says, “The importance of using prosthetics is to mentally prepare soldiers for real world scenarios.” The use of prosthetic wounds is a type of moulage training that will lessen traumatic stress of soldiers when exposed to real life wounds. The key to success in combat is to properly strengthen every soldiers skills, not only physically, but also mentally.
