8. (01:56) INTERVIEW – Staff Sergeant Charles Hoskins, Weapons Squad leader, 173rd Infantry Platoon. ‘Different countries usually have different techniques on how they do the same operations as we would do. So it’s just getting together and showing them our basic techniques on how we would do something like enter and clearing a room or a squad attack so anything like that and we learn from them and they learn from us as well.
9. (02:11) INTERVIEW – Lieutenant General ben Hodges, Commanding General US Army Europe. ‘Exercise Rapid Trident is something that’s been going on in one form or another for about 20 years, since the formation of the partnership for peace, PFP, so we’ve been working with Ukraine ever since, the last 20 years. This year, the exercise has matured in that it is combined with another ongoing exercise called Saber Guardian so a level of sophistication all designed to help the training center here at Yavoriv improve its capability and by doing a distributed command post exercise it strengthens the link between this training centre and other US, national training centers. So that’s a part of it.
None of us are ever going to fight by ourselves, we’re always going to be with allies or partners so you’ve got to practice with each other the procedures, the communications, and that’s what’s really so wonderful about NATO, the alliance gives us a common set of standards and procedures. We all know each other. Even if nations go off to do something not as a NATO operation, our most reliable partners arte members of NATO, so that’s what this is a about.’
