The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE), Buffalo District held a ribbon cutting ceremony on May 29, 2015 at 10am to open the Wildlife Loop Trail at Mount Morris Dam, Mount Morris, New York.
The trail was built in collaboration with the Genesee Valley Educational Partnership, the State University of New York Geneseo Outing Club, and the Finger Lakes Trail Conference, and can be enjoyed all year long by casual hikers, X-country skiers, snowshoers, and trail runners.
“It has been a great experience developing the trail and I am very excited for the public to come and see the great work we, along with our partners have accomplished,” said Tom Wenzel, Mount Morris Dam park ranger. “The trail provides one more activity for visitors of the dam to take part in and directly supports President Obama’s America's Great Outdoors Initiative.”
The trail is directly connected as a spur to the Finger Lakes Trail system, which is altogether over 950 miles in length, and is an ideal location for bird and wildlife viewing as it crosses a variety of forest, field and meadow habitats.
