Naval Medical Center San Diego’s heart team completed the first percutaneous aortic valve implant ever performed at a Department of Defense medical treatment facility March 16, 2015. The operation was led by Cmdr. (Dr.) Keshav R. Nayak and Lt. Cmdr. (Dr.) Joshua Kindelan. The vascular team delivered a stented heart valve to valve sight through a catheter instead of opening the chest wall.
