USAF Capt. Brandon L. Sanders is a native of San Diego, CA.
He is an AFPAK HAND- AfPak Hands are a group of officers and senior NCOs from the joint community who are educated to be subject matter experts (SME) on Afghan and Pakistani culture and language. They are embedded throughout Resolute Support. Their objective is to serve as the connective tissue for different ministries, levels of government, and militaries by connecting and empathizing with our local national counterparts. Upon entering the program, they receive four months of language training in Dari, Pashto, or Urdu. The language is meant to be an ice-breaker with counterparts and not replace interpreters. In order to develop our expertise, they must also conduct a rigorous self-study program outside of language class, to soak-in culture, local politics, current events, history, tribal relations, geography, and more.
Recv'd commission in USAF from Detachment 585 Duke University. Bachelors in Political Science & Public Policy, Masters from American Military University in National Security w/ concentration on Middle Eastern studies, fluent in Farsi, Dari. Assigned at Holloman AFB, Ramstein AB Germany, Pentagon.
