Strike eagles from Seymour Johnson Air Force Base have flown to Las Vegas, Nevada for combat training alongside our allies. Airman First Class Nathan Stout tell us what it took to get there.
REPORTER:
Strike Eagles from the 4th Fighter Wing left Seymour Johnson Air Force base last Friday to participate in red flag. Red Flag is a realistic combat training exercise involving our allies coordinated by Nellis Air Force Base, Nevada. This is one of the few places such a large force can train in the same air space.
CAPT LEIBRANDT:
The training opportunity just doesn’t exist at any other time to get that many assets to work together and figure out the practice before the game with all of the players.
REPORTER:
Some of these players include the Royal Air Force, the Royal Australian Air Force, and other branches of our military.
CAPT LEIBRANDT:
The biggest challenge is managing the amount of air planes in the air space that we get We’re going to be the Red Air, the bad guys, for this exercise. The theory is when we go to a big war; the enemy is going to defend their homeland as well. That’s what we’re going to go emulate. In order to get to Las Vegas, we can’t do that with one tank of gas from the strike eagle.
REPORTER:
KC-135s from the 916th Air Refueling Wing refueled the eight strike eagles multiple times. Both wings, calling Seymour Johnson Air Force Base home, worked together to ferry the F-15 eagles to Red Flag. Reporting from Seymour Johnson Air Force Base, I’m Airman First Class Nathan Stout.
