You may find it hard to imagine artworks with only black stone ink and white paper. Katusa private first class Kang San brings us to a class that creates art with a few brush strokes.

After all the basic practice, the calligraphic art class will move up to more advanced drawing in September.

    Reporter:
Black and white not only compliment each other to express the beauty of oriental art, but also gives everyone peace of mind.

    Ms. Yu Hea Kyung:
First time, i was really nervous to teach foreigners, but they are all really great, and they are good followers. So, they are doing it really more than my expectation. So, i am proud of teaching this one, because this way, i can make them understand Korean culture.

    Reporter:

By concentrating on each line they paint, students are slowly getting close to what calligraphy really means.

    Megan berry:
The beginning is always rough, but the more lines you do the more you repeat the motion, you get to see little bits of improvement. It is nice to look at the really long calligraphy pages, and see top looks pretty messy but by the bottom you definitely seeing the improvement.
    Reporter:
With only a few brush strokes, calligraphy helps Megan achieve a bit more than art.

    Megan berry:
The calligraphy class has helped me to understand the culture, because calligraphy, in and of itself, is supposed to be a form of meditation. And there is also the aspect of detailed work. And, because we are in the early stages of learning, we have to repeat same motions over and over and over again, but that in and of itself, is kind of soothing.
