U.S. Army Corps of Engineers conducted a change-of-command ceremony on Friday, July 11,
at the Marcus Whitman Hotel and Conference Center.
Lt. Col. Timothy R. Vail will assume command of the District from departing Commander
Lt. Col. Andrew D. Kelly, who commanded the Walla Walla District for two years and is rotating to
an assignment in the Office of the Chief of Engineers at the Pentagon in Washington, D.C.
Brig. Gen. John S. Kem, commander of the Corp's Northwestern Division, presided over
the ceremony. The ceremony included the 312th U.S. Army Band and a ceremonial color guard
from the cadet unit of the Junior ROTC at Walla Walla High School.
