2nd Battalion, 75th Ranger Regiment conducted an official retirement ceremony in honor of Medal of Honor recipient Master Sergeant Leroy A. Petry. Petry was awarded the Nation’s highest honor July 12, 2011 for his actions against an armed enemy in the vicinity of Paktya Province, Afghanistan May 26, 2008 when he was assigned to D Company, 2d Battalion, 75th Ranger Regiment. In attendance was Admiral William McRaven, commander of the US Special Operations Command and Brig. General Erik Kurilla, assistant commander-support, Joint Special Operations Command, U.S. Special Operations Command.
