The Coast Guard located and rescued two people Sunday, June 15, 2014, that were reported missing after a 21-foot fishing boat sank near Kiptopeke State Park. A Coast Guard Jayhawk helicopter crew from Coast Guard Air Station Elizabeth City, N.C., was able to locate one person who had swam ashore and found a second person in the water approximately 2 miles west of Kiptopeke. The Jayhawk crew hoisted both people into the helicopter and took them to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital in Norfolk, Virginia.
