The Coast Guard medevaced a 56-year-old woman Monday from a cruise ship approximately 225 miles southeast of the Bahamas.
Personnel aboard the 915-foot cruise ship Grandeur of the Seas notified watchstanders at the Fifth District Command Center at approximately 10 p.m. Sunday, stating the woman was is medical distress.
Coast Guard watchstanders arranged for a rendezvous with the Grandeur of the Seas, which at the time was approximately 300 miles east of Orlando, Fl.
At approximately 3:30 a.m. Monday, flight crews aboard an HC-130 Hercules aircraft and an MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter launched from Coast Guard Air Station Elizabeth City, N.C.
The Jayhawk helicopter arrived on scene at 6:20 a.m. and hoisted the woman and took her to New Hanover Regional Medical Center in Wilmington, N.C.
