ALAMEDA, Calif. - During Coast Guard Day festivities on Coast Guard Island today, Rear Adm. Joseph "Pepe" Castillo presides over a ceremony to re-designate Alameda a "Coast Guard City." At the ceremony, he presents a Coast Guard City designation plaque to Alameda Mayor Marie Gilmore. The Coast Guard City proclamation remains in effect for a five-year term; the re-certification process helps ensure the designation remains accurate and meaningful.
