Arlington, Va. - Commandant of the Coast Guard, Adm. Thad Allen, keynoted at the Surface Navy Association (SNA) National Symposium speaking on the theme "Surface Navy: A Balanced Force for the Hybrid War" Jan. 13, 2010. Allen highlighted how the U.S. Coast Guard supports the "Hybrid War" through international engagement efforts, foreign partner training, bi-lateral agreements and focus on challenges including small vessel security. Allen also noted the importance of global and regional maritime security regimes as well as the multiple layers required for an effective strategy.
