KODIAK, Alaska - Since 1990 the Alaska Marine Safety Education Association has been educating commercial mariners on how to be safe at sea. Alaska fisheries are carried out in some of the harshest environments on earth, and deaths have historically been high. Course participants, veteran and greenhorn alike, review basic safety equipment and procedures that can mean the deference between life and death on the Bering Sea.
