Over 40 Reserve Officers’ Training Corps battalions from various colleges and universities in the northeast will send their “best of the best” to Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst Oct. 6 for the 2012 Ranger Challenge Competition.
During this one-day competition, nine-member teams will negotiate a 7.5-mile route that will test each team member’s basic military skills by negotiating numerous stations that include Obstacle Course, Confidence Course, Burden Leg Mission, One Rope Bridge, Hand Grenade Assault Course, Rappelling Operations, Weapons Station, Boat Movement, Tactical Combat Casualty Care Lane, and a Commander’s Challenge.

Hosted by the 2nd “Freedom” Brigade, the ROTC Ranger Challenge is a physically and mentally demanding activity that is considered to be the Army ROTC's varsity sport. Cadet Command's 2nd Brigade, headquartered at Fort Dix, New Jersey, is responsible for Army ROTC programs in Maine, Vermont, New Hampshire, New York, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania.
The name and spirit for the competition honors the U.S. Army Ranger School at Fort Benning, Ga. Also available in high definition.
