Every year Nellis Air Force Base kicks off the Fourth of July with Freedom Fest. It’s a day filled with fun activities for Airmen and their families. (Hula hoop Contest Nat sound pop) But it’s not just about the contests, food, or fireworks.
-Jennifer Howard, Freedom Fest Participant: "Fourth of July to me means freedom. I can get to wake up every day and do whatever I feel like, and I would like to thank the men and women who serve our country".
-Nicholas Doerflinger, 99 MSGS: "Fourth of July especially demonstrates those that have come before us that laid down their lives and all that, to give us all the freedoms and opportunities that we have: Religion and speech and all that good stuff."
-William Graham Jr, Freedom Fest Participant: "Well for one thing I love the fourth of July because it means it does stands for freedom. It’s what it’s all about."
While Independence Day means freedom to most, it may also mark the day when we welcome America’s newest citizens.
-"To become a citizen by naturalization however is no easy task it requires a special commitment from our military brothers and sisters in arms who choose to defend the Constitution, which has not always protected them up until now. It is my heartfelt thanks to these brave men and women who’ve decided to become in every sense Americans. Happy Fourth of July, God bless you all, God bless our newest citizens, and God bless America."
