Wounded Warriors from San Antonio were given the VIP treatment at the entertainment capitol of the world. Las Vegas’ Palazzo Hotel hosted the warriors and their families at the eighth annual Salute our Troops.
Andy Abboud Soundbite: “And what better way to make them feel better as they begin their recovery and ease back into society by giving them a weekend in Las Vegas where they can forget about their problems, feel good about knowing that the people in Las Vegas community and all over the world appreciate what they’ve done, so it’s simply our way of saying thank you.”
The troops were greeted by a long line of supporters from the community as well as volunteers from Nellis Air Force Base.
Andy Abboud Soundbite: “I think that what’s meaningful is that you see the smile on their face when they arrive and that they forget about the pain and they forget about the anguish and they’re able to escape.
The event progressed with a ceremony honoring the wounded warriors for their dedication. Special guests included Nascar driver Kurt Busch, and CEO and Chairman of the Las Vegas Sands Corporation, Sheldon Adelson. Though numerous people came to show their support, most wounded warriors find strength through those closest to them.
Sebastian Gallegos: “My wife. She stayed in the hospital with me every single night, and she had a hotel room, but she stayed right on the couch, right beside my bed, every single day.”
And it’s every day that these wounded warriors will be remembered for their sacrifice.
Andy Abboud Soundbite: “And we, we will look forward to the day when we don’t have any more wounded warriors to bring to Las Vegas, and that’s our ultimate goal. But, as long as we have wounded warriors and as long as, as long as we have people in need, then we’re going to do this as long as we need to.”
