Soldiers selected to serve in the honor guard have the opportunity to take part in many different types of ceremonies and events, some of which have historical significance.
Members of the I corps Command Honor Guard at Joint Base Lewis-Mcchord received congressional gold coins for their part in support of the Nisei (nee-say) veterans committee's gold medal ceremony. The ceremony held on January 14th, 2012 at Meany Hall Theatre on the University of Washington campus honored members of the 100th Infantry Battalion, 442nd Regimental Combat Team and Military Intelligence Service Of World War Two. The honorees, their families and the many distinguished guests all praised and complimented the honor guard on its presentation of the national and organizational colors. The honor guard's high standards in precision drill and ceremonies exemplified the long honored tradition of pride, duty and commitment.
Sb: "lots of practice, lots of dedication, motivation, you've got to be in it or you're not going to be there at all."
Nine members of the honor guard received gold coins replicating the actual congressional gold medals presented to the Nisei veterans of World War Two.
