Brigadier General Jeffrey Hammond, Assistant Division Commander of Support for the 1st Cavalry Division, talks from Baghdad to a reporter at WSB in Atlanta. Says about 300 combat operations have been used to disrupt insurgent activity that aims to block elections. Says Iraqi security forces (police, army) will protect the polling sites and US Forces will man traffic control points targeting the Baghdad area; will continue raids up to the elections and beyond. He says suicide vest bombers are one of the biggest threats because they're easier to hide; says troops in the past 45 days have decreased "indirect fire terrorism" such as rocket and mortar activity.
