Forty-three Army Reserve soldiers compete at Fort McCoy, Wisc. to earn the title of NCO or Soldier of the Year for the Army Reserve and go on to compete at the DA Best Warrior competition.
These warriors will face rigorous tests that challenge their soldier skills, qualities and abilities in every aspect of their military career. Each of the warriors will take the Army Physical Fitness Test, which consists of: push ups, sit ups and a two-mile run, a written examination on general military topics and a graded essay on an assigned topic. They will also appear before a command sergeants major board for evaluation of their appearance, military bearing and knowledge in a number of key areas. Other requirements are: firing M-4 rifles for qualification, negotiating day and night urban orienteering and land navigation courses, being evaluated in a number of critical warrior tasks and battle drills, completing a series of mystery events and, finally, competing in an Army Combatives tournament.
Once selected, the top soldier and NCO will represent the U.S. Army Reserve Command at the Department of the Army Best Warrior competition held at Fort Lee, Va. Produced by Calvin Reimold. Also available in high definition.
