An unusual passenger arrived to Muñiz Air National Guard Base on a Puerto Rico Air National Guard C-130 Hercules airplane December 9, 2010 after a historic flight. An 840 pound, male Florida manatee called “Guacára” was scheduled for euthanasia, but was rescued by the Puerto Rico Manatee Conservation Center and instead flown from MacDill Air Force Base in Florida to San Juan by the Puerto Rico Air National Guard. The Puerto Rico C-130 was already at MacDill after a training exercise there, so Department of Defense authorized the good-will flight.
