Matthew Koopmann, general and vascular surgeon with the 915th Forward Resuscitative Surgical Detachment, 313th Hospital Center, 2nd Medical Brigade, discusses collaborating with Angolan medical professionals to treat a patient during the Medical Readiness Exercise (MEDREX) at Hospital Militar Principal, Luanda, Angola, Sept. 10, 2026. He highlighted the patient’s injury, lessons learned from his Angolan counterparts, and how the team ensured the patient received necessary care. U.S. Army Southern European Task Force, Africa (SETAF-AF) planned and executed the MEDREX, which brought 10 U.S. Army Reserve medical professionals together with Angolan counterparts for clinical collaboration and subject-matter expert exchanges.
