    Joint Task Force DC

U.S. Army Brig. Gen. Leland Blanchard, and U.S. Army Staff Sgt. Todd Bevan, both with the D.C. National Guard assigned to Joint Task Force-District of Columbia (JTF-DC) in support of the DC Safe and Beautiful mission, highlight the importance of readiness as a response to the September 11 attacks and how important it is to help younger soldiers share the spirit of connection to that day as the previous generation does. Officially named Patriot’s Day on Dec. 18, 2001, the anniversary of the terror attacks on Sept. 11, 2001 is observed with ceremonies at each of three crash sites; the World Trade Center Museum and Memorial in New York City, New York, the Pentagon in Virginia, and the field outside of Shanksville, Pennsylvania where the fourth plane was brought down by passengers. The ceremonies commemorate the courage, sacrifice and loss of the 2,977 victims and the 343 Fire Fighters and 71 Law Enforcement Officers killed in the attacks.
