    U.S. Southern Command

Hundreds of U.S., Peruvian, Chilean, and Argentine soldiers observed a moment of silence on Sept. 11, 2026, during Exercise Southern Vanguard 2026 at the Peruvian Army Jungle School (Ejército del Perú Escuela De Selva) in Saucé, Peru.

Before stepping off for a demanding day of training and support in the Amazon, U.S. Army Soldiers from the Western Hemisphere Command, the 1-505th Parachute Infantry Regiment, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 82nd Airborne Division, the 551st Infantry Regiment (Training), the 410th Contracting Support Brigade, U.S. Army Mission and Installation Contracting Command, and U.S. Army National Guard Soldiers from the 153rd Public Affairs Detachment, West Virginia Army National Guard and the 300th Military Intelligence Brigade (Linguists), Utah Army National Guard, joined their South American teammates to remember and honor the fallen service members, citizens and first responders who perished in the World Trade Center Towers, the Pentagon and Shanksville, Pa. 25 years ago.

The U.S. Army remains deeply committed to honoring the lives lost on September 11 and the extraordinary courage of the military and civilian personnel who responded immediately at the Pentagon and Ground Zero. (U.S. Army National Guard photo by Staff Sgt. Mickey Miller)
