Video by Master Sgt. Clark McDaniel

The United States Army Band "Pershing's Own"

Commissioned by the American Bandmasters Association in 1937, Lincolnshire Posy was premiered at their convention with Percy Grainger conducting. It is in six movements, all based on folk songs from Lincolnshire, England. Grainger's settings are not only true to the verse structure of the folk songs, but attempt to depict the singers from whom Grainger collected the songs. Since its premiere, it has been recognized as a cornerstone of the wind band repertoire.

Check out our accompanying webpage to find an educational deep dive into its instrumental audition excerpts as well as a uniquely devised curriculum handout for elementary and middle school students. https://usarmyband.com/lincolnshire-posy
