Twenty-five years after 9/11, the Air Force Medical Service looks back on the day that changed readiness forever. Our series, “Medics of 9/11,” recollects the harrowing events and extraordinary heroism of that day from the perspective of Airmen and medics on the frontlines of the medical response.
Retired Chief Master Sgt. David Bayliss served as Chief of the Medical Enlisted Force, under then-Air Force Surgeon General Paul K. Carlton, on the day the planes struck the Pentagon. In this episode, he shares his experience helming the initial Air Force medical response, and how experiences from the field carried him through that day. (U.S. Air Force video by Megan Hearst)
