Sniper candidates assigned to 3rd Battalion, 66th Armor Regiment, 1st Armored Brigade Combat Team, 1st Infantry Division, conduct the United States Army Sniper Course "Wind Box" course of fire during sniper selection training at Fort Riley, Kansas, Aug. 27, 2026. During the event, a member of the 3rd Battalion, 66th Armor Regiment sniper section engages five steel targets from 300 to 800 meters with a Barrett Multi-Role Adaptive Design (MRAD) MK22 sniper rifle and an M110 Semi-Automatic Sniper System. At the same time, candidates serve as spotters, using Data of Previous Engagements (DOPE) cards to communicate target identification, range estimates, elevation adjustments, and wind holds necessary to achieve accurate hits.
