U.S. and Indonesian medical and laboratory personnel participate in a Global Emerging Infections Surveillance (GEIS) Laboratory Subject-Matter Expert Exchange during Super Garuda Shield 2026 in Indonesia, Aug. 30, 2026. The exchange provides participants an opportunity to share technical knowledge and laboratory practices related to infectious disease surveillance, including respiratory and vector-borne disease threats. GEIS-supported surveillance provides early warning of infectious disease threats that may affect force health and readiness, while laboratory testing provides actionable information to authorized medical and public health personnel. The exchange strengthens shared health security capabilities, interoperability and cooperation between U.S. and Indonesian personnel. Super Garuda Shield is an annual exercise between the Indonesian National Armed Forces and U.S. military designed to strengthen bilateral interoperability, capabilities and cooperation.
