Puerto Rico National Guard Soldiers purify and distribute drinking water to communities affected by ongoing drought conditions as part of Mission Water Sentinels, Aug. 26, 2026. The mission, activated under Executive Order OE-2026-036 signed by Puerto Rico Gov. Jenniffer A. González Colón, has distributed more than 1,015,000 gallons of water and purified 298,151 gallons between Canóvanas and San Juan to date. The Puerto Rico National Guard continues coordinating with state agencies and municipalities to sustain water transport, purification and distribution efforts across the island in response to the emergency.
