    U.S. Army Command and General Staff College

    Retired U.S. Army Gen. David. G. Perkins presents his topic “What is a Major For?” as the guest speaker for the Colin L. Powell Lecture series Aug. 26, 2026, at the Lewis and Clark Center on Fort Leavenworth, Kansas. Perkins spoke to Command and General Staff College’s Command and General Staff Officer Course Class of 2027. During his presentation, Perkins discussed the importance of majors in driving change, at scale, across the force. Perkins is the previous commanding general of the 4th Infantry Division, U.S. Army Combined Arms Center/Fort Leavenworth, and U.S Army Training and Doctrine Command. The Colin L. Powell Lecture Series was established by CGSC and the CGSC Foundation in 2008 in honor of the legacy of Gen. Powell at Fort Leavenworth. Powell, a former Secretary of State and Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, graduated from the U.S. Army Command and General Staff College, served at Fort Leavenworth as a Brigadier General.
