This video highlights U.S. Airmen assigned to the 163d Civil Engineer Squadron, California Air National Guard, performing upgrade projects during a deployment for training (DFT) at Seward Military Resort in Seward, Alaska, Aug. 10-24, 2026. Lt. Michelle Weston, a civil engineer officer, and Staff Sgt. Darrell Fleig, an electrical power production specialist, both assigned to the 163d Civil Engineer Squadron, discuss the DFT, including its role in preparing Airmen for deployed operations and providing opportunities to cross-train across civil engineer specialties. Thirty-nine Airmen across seven Air Force Specialty Codes participated in the fifth and final rotation of civil engineer units from across the country, upgrading four structures while completing training requirements that prepare them to perform their duties in overseas and deployed environments.
