Pearl Harbor Naval Shipyard and Intermediate Maintenance Facility

B-Roll. Pearl Harbor Naval Shipyard and Intermediate Maintenance Facility (PHNSY & IMF) civilians and Sailors undock the Virginia-class fast-attack submarine USS North Carolina (SSN 777) at Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam, Hawaii, Aug. 12, 2026. The submarine shifted to a pier-side location to continue its operational preparations after completing dry dock maintenance.

North Carolina was commissioned May 3, 2008. North Carolina is the fourth Virginia-class submarine and the fourth U.S. Navy ship to be named for the Tar Heel state. North Carolina is assigned to Submarine Squadron 1 and capable of supporting various missions, including anti-submarine warfare, anti-surface ship warfare, strike warfare, special operations support, and intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance.

PHNSY & IMF’s mission is to keep the Navy’s fleet “Fit to Fight” by repairing, maintaining, and modernizing the Navy's fast-attack submarines and surface ships. Strategically located in the heart of the Pacific, it is the most comprehensive fleet repair and maintenance facility between the U.S. West Coast and the Far East.
