Naval Surface Warfare Center, Corona Division

At Naval Surface Warfare Center (NSWC) Corona Division, Navy civilian scientists control and certify ultra-precision tools known as special interface gages, which verify the form, fit, and function of weapons system parts down to tolerances in the millionths of an inch. NSWC Corona controls and ships these gages to partners throughout the defense industrial base, ensuring that components manufactured by industry meet the Navy’s ultra-precise requirements. NSWC Corona’s Measurement Science and Technology Laboratory helps sustain critical weapons systems throughout the Navy and Marine Corps, from small pistols to hypersonic missiles.

Michael Pierce, branch head for the Weapons Interface Assessment Branch, discusses how his team certifies these gages against the nation’s highest measurement standards, giving warfighters full confidence to trust their systems when it matters most. (U.S. Navy video by Clark Weldon)
