U.S. Marines and Army Soldiers assigned to Joint Task Force-Southern Border (JTF-SB) in support of Operation Ardent Vanguard, participate in water awareness training in El Centro, Calif., Aug. 6, 2026. This training teaches the Marines and Soldiers life-saving survival training, ensuring they can operate effectively and safely in diverse and dangerous maritime environments. U.S. Northern Command is working side-by-side with the Department of Homeland Security and the U.S. Customs and Border Protection within narrowly defined authorities to provide unique military capabilities to protect the territorial integrity of the U.S. southern border.
