During Combined Joint Logistics Over-the-Shore 26 in Pohang, Republic of Korea, U.S. and Republic of Korea forces trained to move personnel, equipment, and supplies from ships at sea to an undeveloped shoreline. Supporting that mission, the 19th Expeditionary Sustainment Command’s Sustained Autonomous Meals system helped keep service members fueled throughout the exercise.
SAM is a mobile, containerized autonomous kitchen designed to provide fresh, hot meals in field environments where traditional dining facilities are unavailable. Using robotic cooking systems, SAM can prepare more than 120 meals per hour while requiring minimal personnel to operate. Its use during CJLOTS 26 demonstrated how emerging sustainment technology can improve operational flexibility, Soldier quality of life, and readiness while supporting joint and combined forces operating in austere environments.
