U.S. Marines with Combat Logistics Battalion 7 (CLB 7), 1st Marine Logistics Group (MLG), and Combat Logistics Regiment 17, 1st MLG, both assigned to Joint Task Force-Southern Border in support of Operation Ardent Vanguard, conduct engineering reconnaissance of the barrier for signs of damage and plan for future barrier reinforcement operations along the U.S.-Mexico border near San Diego, Calif. Aug. 3, 2026. These reconnaissance showcase how the joint engineering team evaluates the physical integrity of the barrier to support regional detection and observation capabilities. U.S. Northern Command is working side-by-side with the Department of Homeland Security and the U.S. Customs and Border Protection within narrowly defined authorities to provide unique military capabilities to protect the territorial integrity of the U.S. southern border.
