Staff Sgt. Jacob Hetherington, a marksmanship instructor/competitive shooter with the U.S. Army Marksmanship Unit's Action Shooting Team, won the Carry Optics Division at the 2026 U.S. Practical Shooting Association Area 7 Championships in Epping, New Hampshire July 17-19. More than 500 marksmen from around the nation were vying for titles in the 13-stage pistol competition that required speed and accuracy. Hetherington claimed his division title with more than 100 point spread. When Hetherington is not perfecting his own skills in competition, he and his teammates share their skills with elite forces across the force.
