U.S. Soldiers assigned to 3rd Battalion, 501st Aviation Regiment, Combat Aviation Brigade, 1st Armored Division, conduct Fast Rope Insertion and Extraction System training with members of the Border Patrol Tactical Unit on Fort Bliss, Texas, July 29, 2026. FRIES allows units to deploy troops rapidly into hostile or restricted areas where aircraft are unable to land. U.S. Northern Command is working side-by-side with the Department of Homeland Security and the U.S. Customs and Border Protection within narrowly defined authorities to provide unique military capabilities to protect the territorial integrity of the U.S. southern border.
