U.S. Army Europe and Africa Soldiers conduct the Iron Traverse, Stress Shoot, and Obstacle Course during the U.S. Army Europe and Africa Best Squad Competition at Grafenwoehr Training Area, Germany, July 31, 2026. The course forces Soldiers to climb rope ascents, scale walls, crawl under wire, negotiate balance obstacles and move through confined spaces while maintaining speed and communication. Each barrier demands coordination, strength and deliberate footwork, reinforcing the squad’s ability to stay cohesive and lethal under physical stress. The Best Squad Competition evaluates Soldiers’ strength, power, endurance and overall fitness while testing each squad’s lethality.
Teams from across U.S. Army Europe and Africa compete at Grafenwoehr Training Area, Germany, July 30 through Aug. 6, 2026, for the title of Best Squad. The competition evaluates squad effectiveness, communication, and cohesion, as well as each Soldier’s technical and tactical proficiency, endurance, and resilience. The winning squad advances to represent U.S. Army Europe and Africa at the Army Best Squad Competition.
