Firefighters participate in the Rocky Mountain Engine Academy at the City of Aurora Public Safety Training Center in Aurora, Colorado, April 24, 2026. Approximately 50 firefighters from Colorado, Wyoming, Nebraska and South Dakota attended the weeklong academy, which focused on preventative maintenance, pumping operations and precision driving. Conducted in partnership with Aurora Fire Rescue, the training provided hands-on experience while strengthening relationships between agencies that regularly respond together to wildland-urban interface incidents across the Rocky Mountains. The academy returned for the first time since 2019, helping rebuild institutional knowledge and prepare the next generation of engine operators for an increasingly year-round fire environment.
