U.S. service members join French, German and Dutch service members for a D-Day commemoration airborne jump at the site of the battle for La Fière in World War II near Sainte-Mère-Église, France, June 7, 2026. Most of the participating U.S. service members were with the 173rd Airborne Brigade, 82nd Airborne Division and 75th Ranger Regiment. The Allied invasion of Normandy remains one of the largest multinational amphibious assaults and airborne operations in history and was the turning point marking the beginning of the end of WWII in Europe.
