U.S. Army Lt. Col. Christopher Roys, with the 130th Maneuver Enhancement Brigade, assigned to Joint Task Force-Southern Border, operates the Android Team Awareness Kit (ATAK) along the Rio Grande River in Laredo, Texas, April 22, 2026. The ATAK device provides specialized tracking capabilities that facilitate coordination with the U.S. Border Patrol to detect suspected illegal aliens attempting to cross the U.S Southern Border. U.S. Northern Command is working side-by-side with the Department of Homeland Security and the U.S. Customs and Border Protection within narrowly defined authorities to provide unique military capabilities to protect the territorial integrity of the U.S. southern border.
