A defense starts long before contact with actions by the Deep Strike Group.
The Cover Group conducts counter-reconnaissance forward and if bypassed will harass and disrupt the attacker.
The main defensive line is the Frontier Defense Group, intended to blunt an attack and inflict casualties.
The Depth Defense Group prevents penetration and reinforces the defensive line. In a Mobile Defense it is the decisive component.
The Combat Reserve maintains security and reinforces the defense. It may also support a counter-attack.
Indirect and electronic attack assets strike deep at maximum range and annihilation attacks with aimed fires
An Air Firepower Strike Group may also be present.
