The PLA’s armed branches have significant combat power, but they are enabled by a variety of support forces.
The Cyberspace Force is responsible for offensive and defensive cyber operations and integration of cyber-related capabilities. It employs advanced technologies and tactics, including vulnerability exploitation and third-party compromise in conjunction with other PLA services, ensuring coordinated actions in the cyber domain.
The Information Support Force develops and applies network information systems, protecting military information and integrating emerging capabilities like AI into military operations. It enhances joint combat capabilities and information support for multidomain operations, reflecting China's emphasis on modernizing information capabilities and integration.
The Military Aerospace Force ensure China’s access, use, and dominance of the space domain. It controls all of China’s military satellites and is tasked with developing doctrine, training, and capabilities to enable Chinese space priorities.
The Joint Logistics Support Force unifies logistics elements and focuses on improving joint operations, training, and support capabilities, including military-civilian integration. It enables strategic unity of effort through an integrated joint logistics command system.
Capabilities outside of the PLA architecture, such as the People’s Armed Police and Maritime Militia, are a key part of China’s whole-of-society mobilization efforts. Even these are modernizing to better enable and support combat operations.
