There are two main types of Russian maneuver brigades: Motorized Rifle and Tank.
“New Look” restructuring changed the SV from the Soviet four-tiered organization to a modernized, three-tiered force - with the Brigade as a building block that can fight “local wars and armed conflicts” through “large-scale war.”
Brigades have fewer personnel and less equipment than Divisions but can be just as effective – even if in a smaller area.
They will likely task organize with assets from a parent unit.
Brigades provide capabilities including strategic mobility, rapid deployment, and high-readiness; and are capable of covering more tasks along Russia’s extensive borders.
