This Memorial Day, we honor the legacy of Vincent “Vinnie” Speranza, a late soldier assigned to the 501st Parachute Infantry Regiment, 101st Airborne Division, who fought in the Battle of the Bulge.
During the siege of Bastogne, as the city was surrounded and under heavy fire, Speranza risked his life to aid wounded paratroopers. Using his helmet, he carried beer from a damaged tavern to those who could not move. What began as a simple act became a lasting symbol of grit, brotherhood, and care under fire.
His story serves as a reminder that courage is not only found in combat, but in how Soldiers take care of each other when it matters most.
