Avril Callicutt, a musician, composer, and writer, as well as a military spouse of a U.S. Army Reserve Soldier and Department of the Army civilian assigned to the 7th Mission Support Command, shares her story of creativity and community involvement in Kaiserslautern, Germany.
Callicutt, a St. Louis, Missouri, created the original musical Piper, which premiered April 10, 2026, at the Kaiserslautern Military Community Onstage theater, and ran for two consecutive weekends. The volunteer-driven production brought together service members, civilians, spouses, and children, highlighting the connection within the military community overseas.
In this 2:39 feature video, Callicutt reflects on the role military families play in supporting the mission and strengthening the community beyond the uniform. (U.S. Army Reserve video by Sgt. 1st Class Angela O’Hearn)
