Wyatt Britton, 1st Battalion, 227th Aviation Regiment commander, describes his unit's training on the Area for Forward Arming and Refueling, or AFAR, method during an AH-64 Apache attack helicopter advanced gunnery live-fire exercise on Fort Hood, Texas, 31 March, 2026. The AFAR method allows an aviation unit to rapidly refuel and reload its aircraft in a potentially hostile environment, thereby enabling greater lethality and maneuverability at longer ranges on the battlefield.
