Elmore served nearby at Fort Knox, Kentucky as a Soldier and worked as a civilian illustrator for the Training Aids Department in the 1970s. Field craft for a specialized unit like the 326th Military History Detachment cannot be mastered entirely in a classroom. To sharpen their technical skills, a five-Soldier team from the unit conducted a site visit to the 11-acre Fort McCoy Commemorative Area on Aug. 3.
